Volunteers needed for Best Village Competition

Basseterre, St. Kitts (SKNIS) — With the Best Village Competition fast approaching the Ministry of Tourism is encouraging support from volunteers to assist in the Independence project.

The ministry is appealing to heavy equipment operators in particular to volunteer their services. This includes truckers to take waste to the landfill.

Communities are urged to advise the ministry when they will be doing a general clean-up so that the Solid Waste Management Cooperation (SWMC) can be notified accordingly.

Communities are reminded that landfills will not be accepting “white goods” which are large appliances such as refrigerators, air conditioners, washing machines, dryers, stoves and freezers. Instead, communities are encouraged to recycle these items.

Community members are invited to contribute towards the purchase of small items to beautifying their communities. At the same time, the private sector is encouraged to contribute as well in terms of providing material or assisting with the cost of items.

Persons wishing to help can email sknindependence@gmail.com or call 467-1390.
