WICB President Agrees to Meeting with CARICOM Heads

(ZIZ News) – President of the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB), Dave Cameron has agreed to meet with CARICOM Heads of Government in Grenada, on December 4, to discuss the recommendations of the Cricket Governance Review Report.

Cameron came under fire recently from Chairman of the CARICOM’s Cricket Governance Committee, Dr. Keith Mitchell, over his reluctance to schedule a meeting to discuss the report, which has as its main proposal the “immediate dissolution” of the WICB.

“It is quite amazing the level of disrespect; the level of lack of understanding of the importance of this is quite frightening and I don’t think I should hold back any words. I expect the President of the West Indies Cricket Board to the leadership of the Caribbean, the leadership of the people of the region and to give effect to an urgent meeting. We expect no less,” Mitchell said while addressing the media at the closing of the OECS Authority meeting last week.

On Monday, Cameron apologised for any offence he may have caused CARICOM, but said he needed time to speak to his shareholders.

Despite agreeing to the December 4 meeting however, Cameron maintained that governments should not influence the decisions of independent sporting organisations.
