Windies bowlers taken to task

ZIZ News…Jan. 29, 2013 — Sunil Narine and Kieron Pollard were the two stand out bowlers as the Windies bowling attack came in for a fiery baptism on their current tour of Australia.

The Prime Minister’s X1 won the toss and elected to bat in a warm up game for the visitors ahead of their one day series against what is expected to be a top quality Australian team.

Doolan top scored with 87; Khawaja 69; Dean 51; Faulkner 44* and Haddin 39. The latter two teamed up in a whirlwind late order partnership of 62 in just 37 balls.

Captain Ricky Ponting was bowled by Narine for 15.

Narine snared 2 wickets for 32 from his 10 overs and Pollard 2 for 37 from 7.

Tino Best managed 1 for 84; Dwayne Bravo 1 for 75 and Captain Sammy 0 for 72. They suffered the brunt of the savage onslaught.

The West Indies started their response in a similarly aggressive manner with Johnson Charles hitting two huge maximums in the early exchanges, accompanied by a more sedate Kieran Powell It soon became the Kieran Powell show as he upped the tempo, hitting 3 fours and a maximum to race to 40 in only 34 balls. Charles was unfortunately run out but Sarwan batted steadily while Powell played aggressively at the other end. Powell was forced to retire hurt on 92; Sarwan got to 63 and even a late order cameo of 54 from Andre Russell who hit 5 sixes and 3 fours was not enough as the Windies succumbed to 310 all out in 49 overs.
