Windies ladies dish out One Day White Wash

Sports Page — It was a rare feat and one deserving of a team obviously on the upward climb.

The West Indies women’s team completed a four to nil white wash in their current series versus the New Zealand team.

This was accomplished in front of easily the largest crowd of the entire series at the Warner Park cricket stadium in St.Kitts.

The match was played on Friday 19th September, Independence day in the Federation of St.Kitts and Nevis—a public holiday.

The Windies women won the toss and batted first and were off to a superb start with openers, Kycia Knight and Natasha Mc Clean both batting impressively to get their team off to a rollicking start.

This was followed by a cultured half century by Stefanie Taylor and even though Deandra Dottin failed to get going on this occasion, the team managed to go past the 200 mark when the fifty overs were completed.

In their last outing, the New Zealanders were bowled out for a paltry 69 runs and many spectators were anticipating an early afternoon.

Not so.

This time around, the Kiwis served to rattle the Windies women as Bates and Priest teamed up in an enterprising opening stand of 114 with Captain Bates playing some belligerent shots, even charging the pace bowlers and hitting mystery spinner Mohammed for a huge six in her first over.

It was the same Mohammed who had her caught in the deep by Dottin, attempting another maximum.

Priest and Devine continued in another exciting partnership which one spectator described as ‘divine inspiration.’

Once they were parted however, the Windies women and the supportive crowd knew that their team was back in the game.

It came down to an exciting finish with the Kiwis falling just four runs short of the target with one ball remaining and losing the series 4 games to nil.
