Women of St. Kitts Celebrated on International Women’s Day

(ZIZ)–Women around the world were celebrated on Saturday during International Women’s Day and the women in St. Kitts were no exception.

The Ministry of Community Development, Culture and Gender Affairs held a Breakfast and Awards Ceremony Saturday (March 8th) to show appreciation to women who are making a difference.

Minister of Community Development, Culture and Gender Affairs, the Honourable Marcella Liburd spoke of the achievements of women in society.

She said, “We have come a long way as women here in St. Kitts and Nevis. As a matter of fact, there are several women in leadership positions and in areas that are traditionally dominated by males for example, in national security…we now have a Superintendent of Police.”

Guest speaker, Her Excellency Jacinth Henry-Martin took the opportunity to encourage women to recognize their worth in society.

“Take stock of your worth, women; know ye and verily; believe that the world is what a woman makes it since we are not only the mothers but also the vast majority of the teachers as well. Know your rights and demand them. Do not allow yourselves to become statistics,” she advocated.

The theme of this year’s International Women’s Day was “Inspiring Our Women”.
