Women’s Tennis Bounces Back With 5-2 Win Over Fordham

TennisFilePhotoBMassachusetts University report — After a tough loss at No. 22 Dartmouth on Thursday night, the UMass women’s tennis team bounced back on Sunday afternoon with a 5-2 win over Fordham at the Bay Road Tennis Center. The Minute women swept all three doubles matches to earn the opening point before winning four of six singles matches for the team win.

The Minute women improve to 5-3 overall this season while Fordham falls to 4-2 overall. UMass will head to Providence on Friday for a 6 PM match before returning to the Bay Road Tennis Center on Sunday to host Saint Louis. The first 20 fans at the Saint Louis match will receive a free Black Out t-shirt.

Against Fordham, Ana Yrazusta and Carol Benito earned an 8-4 win at No. 1 doubles, while Arielle Griffin and Aarzoo Malik won 8-2 at No. 2 doubles. Chanel Glasper and Anna Woosley completed the sweep with an 8-0 win at No. 3 doubles.

The win for Yrazusta and Beniot at No. 1 doubles marked the second straight victory of the week and improved the pair to 15-5 overall this year with a 7-1 mark in dual matches.

Yrazusta also won at No. 2 singles in straight sets (6-2, 7-6) followed by Griffin’s tight 7-6, 7-6 win at No. 3 singles. Benito (6-1, 6-1) and Glasper (6-4, 6-4) rounded out the singles victories at No. 5 and No. 6 singles, respectively.
