World AIDS Day Events

(ZIZ News) — On Tuesday, St. Kitts-Nevis joined the rest of the world in commemorating World AIDS Day.

National AIDS Programme Coordinator in the Ministry of Health, Gardenia Destang Richardson, said the Ministry is currently focusing on partnering with businesses to increase HIV awareness.

“We have been able to confirm 17 businesses with what we call “Show Me Your Colour” or “Colour Your Support” where we have businesses displaying HIV symbols and they would also be providing their various patrons as they come in with a little red ribbon in remembrance of the day and what it stands for,” she said.

She said activities will go beyond World AIDS Day and stretch throughout December.

“It’s not just on the specific day because again we have Carnival and Christmas; two festive seasons where people tend to relax a little bit and may not make the best decisions, especially as it relates to their sexual health. So we tend to have activities that would spread throughout those seasons and those activities,” she explained

The National Testing Day is slated for December 11 at Independence Square.

The theme for the 2015 World AIDS Day observance is “Make Every Step Count Down To Zero”
