World Blood Donor Day

BASSETERRE (7th June, 2013): World Blood Donor Day is celebrated every year on 14 June to raise awareness of the importance of blood donation and to recognize the contribution of voluntary unpaid blood donors in saving lives and improving health. The focus for this year’s campaign – the 10th anniversary of World Blood Donor Day – is blood donation as a gift that saves lives.

The St. Kitts-Nevis National Blood Transfusion Services (SKN-NBTS) has scheduled two major activities this year in celebration of World Donor Day: a Radio Talk show with Dr Eileen Maclachan-Moore featuring a former Ms St Kitts and Nevis (Ms Zinga Imo) on Wednesday 12th June at from 11 -12pm on ZIZ and a National Blood Drive on Saturday 15th June at West Independence Square from 9:00am-12:00pm. This year the SKN-NBTS has partnered with the St.Kitts Music Festival Committee to help raise awareness of the need for safe blood and blood products.

We would also be showing our appreciation to three regular volunteer blood donors thanking them for their life-saving gifts of blood.

We are therefore encouraging people to come out and show their support, donate or enroll as voluntary blood donors.
