Youth encouraged to apply for CYA and Remarkable Teens Award

CherecaWeaver-1(ZIZ News) — The Department of Youth Empowerment is encouraging young people to take advantage of the many opportunities that are available to them.

Recently, Senior Youth Officer Chereca Weaver said the application process has started for two major initiatives: CARICOM Youth Ambassadors and the annual Remarkable Teens Awards Ceremony.

She spoke first of the CARICOM Youth Ambassador application process, noting that they are only accepting applications for female CARICOM Youth Ambassador, her alternate, and an alternate male ambassador.

“We’re inviting persons to come to the Youth Department located on Church Street and collect your application form. It’s very simple and it should be accompanied by two passport-sized pictures and returned to us by June 12th so there’s quite a bit of time but we don’t want you to procrastinate. We want you to grab your forms, fill them out and come in. We’ll help you if you have any questions,” she noted.

Weaver said the Remarkable Teens programme continues to do well and called on persons to nominate teenagers for the award.

“We’re now accepting nominations. We have a few already but we really want persons to collect their forms from any high school in St. Kitts or Nevis. Often, persons in November when we’re awarding the young persons who are selected state ‘well I know somebody who could have done such and such or I know somebody who is doing such and such’ and I keep on saying, ‘did you nominate them?’ We cannot nominate anybody. You have to nominate them. Please! Any high school in St. Kitts or Nevis or any Youth Department in St. Kitts and Nevis,” Weaver explained.
