Youth Vybzing Challenge climaxes tonight

Basseterre, St. Kitts (SKNIS) — Eleven vibrant persons will compete tonight (May 8) for a cash prize of more than $6,000 as the “Vybzing, St. Kitts and Nevis Spoken Word Challenge” finals take place at the Sweet Lime Restaurant at MaPou.

Performances will be centered around the theme “Creative Industries and Youth: Unleashing Potential and Growth.” The competition is sponsored by the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB) and organized by the Department of Youth.

The featured performers are Creus Richardson, Kadeise Hendrickson, Karisia Willett, Jonelle Irish, Mervil Nisbett, Quinn Martin, Wricherley Gumbs, James Galloway, Jihan Williams, Sanjay Caines and Symona Hutton. The performances will be evaluated by a panel of judges.

Senior Youth Officer Pierre Liburd said that the department is grateful for the partnership with the CDB. “It creates another opportunity for young people in St. Kitts and Nevis to invest energies in their creative expression and development which is a positive,” he said, encouraging the public to go to the free event which begins at 7 p.m.

The initiative is part of the CDB Youth Outreach Programme and is organized as part of activities being held around the CDB Board of Governors Meeting slated for May 19-21 at the St. Kitts Marriott Resort.
