ZIZ 50th Anniversary hits a high point with Awards Ceremony and Reception

ZIZ News…April 28, 2011 – Those who have served and those who are still contributing to the development of ZIZ Radio over the past fifty years were duly awarded when a wide cross section of the community attended a function which was the high point of the celebrations thus far.

The ZIZ 50th Anniversary Awards Reception was held on Wednesday evening at the Sir Cecil Jacobs Auditorium, Eastern Caribbean Central Bank.

The programme featured remarks by the General Manager (ag) Mr. Viere Galloway who welcomed the guests including the Acting Governor General Sir Edmund Lawrence, Prime Minister the Hon. Dr. Denzil Douglas, Information Minister Hon. Nigel Carty, Parliamentarians and other specially invited persons.

Chairman of the Board of Directors Mr. Peter Jenkins gave the audience a summary of the achievements of ZIZ Radio over the past fifty years and the contribution the Radio Station continues to make in the development of the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis.

The Hon. Nigel Carty challenged the Board, Management and Staff of ZIZ Broadcasting Corporation to be more assertive and creative and come up with more programs that will assist in the development of the Nation.

The featured speaker was noted regional journalist Mr. Ricky Singh who gave a sterling presentation on radio communication as it is today and spoke on the demise of the BBC Caribbean service which he said was quite sad.

Other highlights of the programme were the presentation of the Gold Medallion Awards and the Gold Star Awards along with a mixture of entertainment by the Okolo Arts Theatre, Alex Condel on the saxophone, a steelband solo by Stephen Smith, a song by News Reporter Rolhensha Henry, ZIZ Calypso King Navigator and the blended voices of the ZIZ Song Competition participants.

The Awards ceremony which was carried live on ZIZ Radio and streamed on the internet ended with light refreshments provided by Chefs Garden Restaurant in the TDC Mall.
